The Future is Botanical

We have a monthly publication here in borough of Richmond upon Thames called the Richmond Magazine that includes some great articles on what’s happening in the area culturally, for children and in the arts. A few months ago I read that the work of one of my former Airbnb guests would be on display at Kew Gardens during the spring of 2023. I was gobsmacked and so emailed her congratulations straight away. She subsequently asked me to photograph the opening of the exhibition for which I was both honoured and delighted. Sue Wickison has had the most glorious display of her botanical paintings in her Plants of the Quaran at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery in the Gardens.

Another of the exhibitions at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery was the work of Anila Quayyum Agha called All the Flowers are for me. This work draws inspiration from Islamic art and architecture and explores cultural connectedness and peaceful co-existence in the ever fractious world that we live in now.

I was also able to photograph some photos by Lucy Smith of her water botanicals. These photos will appear in her upcoming book.
